Attack on the Students of JNU – An Awareness

The students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, have become a soft target of political vendetta. The recent attacks on students narrate the sad story of suppression of intellectual activity and creative involvement of students to the cause of social justice. Right to dissent and freedom of expression is considered anti national. The steep hike in the fees deprives the poor, the dalits, the tribal and women’s accessibility to higher education. Students protesting against the hike were attacked and beaten in an orchestrated and organized fashion and were threatened of dire consequences. Students all over India are protesting to vent their anger and pledging their solidarity with the students of JNU. At Loyola Degree College, Bengaluru, an awareness meeting was held on January 9, 2020. Ms. Chethana Thirthahalli, a freelance journalist was the main speaker who addressed the students. She was vociferous in condemning all those evil forces involved in this heinous crime and explained to the students the undercurrents behind this attack and asked the students to be sensitive to such dehumanizing incidents in the society. Dr Kumaraswamy, Mr Lazarus Lepcha and Fr Francis D’ Almeida S J also addressed the gathering. Dr Vincent, anchored the programme and moderated the interactive session at the end. Anjali, President of the Student Council proposed the vote of thanks.
